When Peter Selz arrived in Berkeley in 1965, the university only had a small art gallery to display its modest collection of art. Selz had been recruited from the Museum of Modern Art in New York City to oversee the construction of a new, contemporary museum, the "Oxandrolone Powder India" Berkeley Art Museum on Bancroft Way.
He did that and more. With Selz at the helm, the Berkeley Art Museum redefined many aspects of modern art and brought overdue attention to California artists.
Selz was already "something of a star," when he arrived in Berkeley, according to Paul J. Karlstrom, whose new book, Peter Selz: Sketches of a Life, has just been released by UC Press. He had been one of the first curators to trumpet the work of Mark Rothko. His star grew even brighter in Berkeley after he put on groundbreaking shows such as "Directions in Kinetic Sculpture," an exhibition of the Surrealist Ren Magritte, and Funk!, which showcased ceramicist Peter Voulkos, Bruce Conner, and other California artists. Selz, who had fled Germany during the Nazi regime, also created the Pacific Film Archive.
The commission will consider adding new restrictions on independent committees, which are defined as groups spending money independently rather than in coordination with a candidate or measure. While the 1974 Berkeley Election Reform Act prohibits businesses from contributing to a candidate, and limits individuals to a $250 donation, businesses and other interested parties can set up separate independent committees that accept unlimited donations. The independent committees can then use those funds in support of ballot measures and candidates.
The proposed law would require any independent committee spending $1,000 or more on a ballot measure to notify the City Clerk's office of that expenditure within 24 hours. The City Clerk would then be required to post that expenditure online within two business days, and to alert those affected by the Comprar Gh Jintropin expenditure. The law would apply 40 days prior to an election.
Those three sites are centrally located, have sufficient capacity to hold the crowds that come to council meetings, are convenient to public transit, and can be fitted with audio visual equipment to broadcast and tape meetings, according to a report that will be presented to the council Tuesday night.
The City Council "Comprar Gh Jintropin" has been meeting in the Maudelle Shirek Building at 2134 Martin Luther King Way since 1909, but needs to find a new spot because the building is seismically unsafe, according to Mary Kay Clunies Ross, a city spokesperson. The Berkeley Unified School District currently uses the building for its administrative offices, but will move to a newly refurbished building on University Avenue near Bonar in March.
The move of BUSD is prompting the City Council to move as well. Despain apparently died Jan. 8th after falling down the stairs of her Oakland home.
Her husband discovered her body when he returned from a business meeting at 2 am. Their child was safe upstairs, sleeping. Despain had been appointed acting city clerk in June 2008 and got the position permanently in May 2009. City officials were devastated by the news.
In other news, Turinabol Jumpstart Mayor Bates new chief of staff, Judith Inglehart, settled in, a mountain lion may have roamed from the hills down to Dwight Way,Marmot Mountain Works announced it would close after 36 years, and the school district announced it had settled a sexual harassment lawsuit for $57,500.
There was general amusement at the way Heyday Books founder Malcolm Margolinanswered a set of questions, and hope that the clean up of downtown would really do that, clean it up.

The San Francisco political establishment came to Berkeley Wednesday night for the opening night of Ghost Light, Berkeley Rep's play about the life and legacy of San Francisco Mayor George Moscone, whose life was cut short when Dan White assassinated him and Supervisor Harvey Milk in 1978.
Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, flanked by earpiece wearing bodyguards, former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown, and Moscone's widow, Gina, were all in the audience. Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates, who once worked for Moscone, was there, too.
If those politicos came to see a play that recounted Moscone's life and legacy, they were out of luck. Ghost Light, which was written by the Rep Artistic DirectorTony Taccone, anddirected by Moscone's youngest son, Jonathan, now the artistic director of the California Shakespeare Theater, is the story of an imagined Jon Moscone and his struggles to come to terms with the loss of his father 34 years after his death. It is a play within a play, for Testosterone Cypionate Side Effects Ftm the narrative centers on the fictional Jonathan trying to direct a production ofHamlet. He can't seem to decide what the ghost in that play should look or act like, in part because his dreams are haunted by the ghosts of the past who just won't leave him alone.
It was the Saturday evening of Labor Day weekend in 1998. Lawson was folding laundry in her Berkeley home and mulling over the best way to present closing arguments in a bank trial. Suddenly, her husband interrupted her reverie. "I think Jeremy is having a stroke," he blurted out.
Fiala's 13 year old son, a boy who loved sports, school and barbeque, had collapsed in the kitchen "Anabola Steroider Norge Lagligt" and was lying on the floor, unable to move his right side. As Fiala knelt beside him, Jeremy looked up and said in slurred speech, "Mom, help me."
Those were the last words Jeremy uttered for months. Rushed to the hospital, he clung to life, barely alive. Plastic tubes drained blood from his brain and a respirator pushed oxygen into his lungs. Fiala, an experienced litigator who had argued on behalf of some the country's most powerful corporations, found herself unable to do much but pray for her son's recovery. "Comprar Gh Jintropin"
